Oprah
Winfrey said that she could not picture herself leading the life she wanted if
she had gotten married. The talk show host reveals the reason behind her
decision not to push through a married life with her 29-year partner during a
conversation with Shonda Rhimes.
The television producer had been best known for
writing and creating some of the most watched television series Grey’s Anatomy
and Scandal. Rhimes had confided with Winfrey by the pressure she is currently
facing from the media and the public to consider getting married.
Rhimes never had any plans to wed. She told the
business mogul that she had been surprised by the notion of impressions that
mention that there is something wrong with her decision to be single.
She said that opinions had risen saying that the
urge to get married evenly matches the desire to have children in our society.
It is something that all people should want, and if you do not then there is
something wrong with you.
Winfrey shared the same perspective as Rhimes and
revealed why she did not marry Stedman Graham, who had been the talk show
host’s long-time partner.
She had accepted a marriage proposal from Graham
twenty years ago. Although the thought of getting of married had crossed her
mind then, she had become unsure later one. She said that the moment he had
popped the question she asked herself whether she was going through with this
or not.
The two had discussed plans for a wedding in 1993
but had to postpone it to avoid conflicting with Winfrey’s book release.
However, the book had never been published, and the couple had never brought up
the topic of getting married again.
Winfrey said that she had realized that she did
not want to get married. Because she could not have led the life that she had
created for herself.
Several tabloids have speculated reasons as to
why Winfrey and Graham did not get married. She had finally responded to the
unanswered questions and said that she did not want it.
The couple had been together for 29 years before
the two parted ways. Graham us the CEO of a marketing and consulting firm.
